FAQ

Are the boats easy to row? How fast can you go?

The boats are easy to row. Several of them can be equipped with RULLSÄTEN and then become an excellent exercise tool that can reach speeds of 6-7 knots.

Are the boats stable?

Pretty stable! Rangeley is stable even for beginners. The kayaks might require a bit more experience but are still fairly stable. So far we have had very few involuntary dips in the lake.

Is it difficult to build on your own?

Not very, normal wood craft skills take you far. The woodwork is less dramatic than the epoxy part as you cannot easily redo mistakes.

How long does it take to build a boat?

Since I work full time and Båtbyggeriet is an evening and weekend project it takes a bit longer to build a boat. A strip technique kayak takes about a month to build, a rowing boat like Liz or Rangeley takes about three months.

In total about 150-250 hours.

Are the boats CE certified?

Yes. Rowing boats are comprised by EU directive, which means that they need to be CE marked. If a rowing boat is build commercially, or if it will be sold within 5 years, the directive applies. Kayaks, canoes and training boats are not included in this directive and therefore do not need CE marking.

We adapt our constructions to EU regulations and leave recommendations to self-builders on what applies to European conditions.

What does a finished boat cost?

The rowing boats start at approximately 60 000 SEK, normal price is about 80 000 SEK.
